The DJSI inclusion 2020

The editorial board asked Frederike Rijkse some questions about the DJSI inclusion 2020. Central question was: Why is inclusion in the DJSI important?

The DJSI inclusion 2020

“The DJSI, which is short for Dow Jones Sustainability Index, was the first global index to track the performance of companies based on a sustainability assessment. It was launched in 1999 and is a partnership between S&P Dow Jones and research agency RobecoSAM (now SAM). As
NN we have participated in the assessment since 2015 and we became a constituent of the index in 2017.

The DJSI is not the only rating we participate in, but it is a very important one because it covers so many different aspects of our business. We think it is important to be included in the DJSI because it is a recognition of our economic, environmental and social performance – and also of our strategic commitment to contribute to the well-being of people and the planet. It tracks our performance over the years and shows us where we can make improvements in how we do business. It also provides a benchmark against (inter)national peers in the insurance sector. Our score in the DJSI is published on Bloomberg so investors can also see how we have performed."
